Many schools will arrange to visit your child in the home prior to starting school. The purpose of these visits is to see your child within the home setting where they are likely to be most at ease and gives parents the opportunity to raise any issues or worries they wish to discuss. They forge early links with the family which create an overall picture of your child. Little snippets of home information like a family pet or favourite toy can be used by the teacher as part of the settling in process.
- Tell your child that their new teacher is coming to visit.
- Turn TV and technology off during the visit.
- Get your child to prepare something they want to show like a picture or favourite toy.
